Dog shot to death during attempted robbery

A dog was shot dead during a late night home invasion in Hope Mills. Investigators with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Detectives said three armed men forced their way into a home on the 5900 block of Baggett Lane around 11:25 p.m. on Sunday.

The home owner, 25-year-old female, told detectives she and four other friends had a cook out earlier and were sitting in the living room when the suspects entered the home wearing black ski masks and holding guns.

According to investigators, the homeowner's dog gave chase and was shot and killed by the intruders.

No other injuries were reported, and the investigation continues.
